The GCC 22th Meeting of the Committee of Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Transport and Communications

U.A.E. delegation headed by Eng. Ahmed Mohamed Sharif El Khoury Director-General of the Federal Authority for Land (FTA) and Maritime Transport, have participated in the 22nd Meeting of the Committee of Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Transport and Communications in GCC countries, held today, 27 December, in Kuwait. The UAE delegation included H.E. Sheikh Nasser Al Qasimi, the Executive Director of the Land Transport Sector at FTA, Dr. Aisha Al Busmait, Director of the Government Communication Department, Manal Bamatraf, Director of Pricing at Etihad Rail, and Abdullah Al Hosani, a chief administrative officer of communications and media outreach.

The meeting was attended by undersecretaries of Transport and Communications ministries and chairpersons of the National Roads and Transport Authorities in the GCC countries.

During the meeting, they discussed key issues in Transport and Communications sector and primarily the project of the unified railway linking the capital cities of GCC countries regarding expectations of passenger flows and volume of freight, setting up a GCC committee to coordinate the project and the study of the project timeline.

The meeting's agenda included several issues, the most important of which, are to discuss signing the MoU of the joint data-centre for a vessel monitoring system and appointment of Permanent Representative of GCC countries to International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The meeting also discussed the unified system of land transport for passengers and freight between the GCC countries.

Recommendations and proposals were formulated and will be submitted to honorable ministers of Transport and Communications in GCC countries at the meeting that is to be held tomorrow, Thursday 29th December 2018, in brotherly country, Kuwait.
